On 10th of June 2004 at 10.30 pm, the annoucement
of Ray Charles's death, was extremely bitter and as short
as :
"RAY CHARLES IS DEAD"
During that night, this sentence kept on coming back to
my mind. It froze my blood and broke my heart.
"RAY CHARLES IS DEAD"
I knew Ray Charles was very ill. I had news about his
health and I knew he was living his last days.
I won't speak about Ray Charles's life, and I won't
comment on his career in details. Some journalists have
done a great job on this exceptional musician in the past.
(Frank Ténot, David Ritz, Joęl Dufour, Maurice Cullaz
).
Regarding the daily papers that have related the event
too many nonsenses have been written, I prefer not to add
a word of it.
"RAY CHARLES IS DEAD"
The lost of Ray Charles makes me sad, but I have some
beautiful memories. I've seen around fourty Ray Charles's
concerts; his first concert in Paris at the Olympia, le
palais des sports in 1961, all his concerts at La salle
Pleyel from 1967, then followed the shows in the other
regions of the country that I would never have missed in
case I was in the concerned region.
In 2000, I've recorded a tribute to Ray Charles, a trio.
Thanks to it, I had the opportunity to meet the Master
twice. He was a delicious and pleasant man.
I'll never forget the "light" 50 years of this
dazzling voice and they will stay forever in my mind.
